The History Group's members are enthusiastic and friendly and its interests are extremely eclectic, avoiding only topics best covered by HoTS (the History of Tetbury Society). We meet monthly in the Goods Shed at 2pm after the u3a's monthy meeting and enjoy occasional visits to historic locations.
We have learnt about topics as diverse as ancient Roman villas, the Great Fire of London, the British legacy in Singapore, Mary Anning - Dorset's ground-breaking paleontologist, Life below decks in Nelson's navy, the driving forces behind the British Empire, Rubber in Malaya, Victorian England's battles in South Africa and, later, that country's struggles against Apartheid and many more - including saggar maker's bottom knockers!
Our annual Christmas quiz (and picnic lunch) in the railway carriage is a truly co-operative event much enjoyed by Group members.
If your interests include history, learning and sharing, please contact us using the link above. You can be sure of a warm welcome.

Christmas Quiz 2025
Our Christmas Quiz was very well attended. We enjoyed sharing our festive food and drink, and the fun history questions kept us amused and entertained. The "Dingbat" Christmas-themed quiz provided by David & Maggie can be downloaded here. Try it out on family and friends during the festive season!
