We are a fairly small group as we prefer to keep our meetings informal.
Each month, two of us lead a talk and discussion about any aspect of art that is of interest.
Paintings and artists have included: The Adoration of the Magi, a fresco by Perugino, Gwen John, Turner’s Chichester Canal and Van Gogh’s recent exhibition at the National Gallery.
Our interests range from Renaissance art to Modern art and all points in between. The subject does not have to be about a painting. We have also discussed Tattoos, Quilting, The Angel of the North, Donatello’s sculpture of David, Hokusai’s print The Great Wave, and John Wood the architect of Bath.
We have talked about influences and processes, the Arts and Crafts movement, the use of lost wax casting in sculptures, perspective, the artist’s use of a camera obscura, creating interest and mood in a painting, art in times of war, and how the Industrial Revolution changed art and paint colours.
Depending on the size of the group, each of us lead two or three sessions a year. If you would be interested in joining us or would like to come to a meeting to find out more, please contact the Leader using the link above.
